Wearable devices have been deployed in the business environment for more than 20 years. Devices from many different vendors and lines have been used to enhance employee efficacy in the warehouse. Wearable mobile computers allow users to move about the facility hands-free, and pick product quickly and effectively.

But wearables don’t stop at mobile computers. Ring scanners are a wearable technology that also facilitates freedom of movement and increased productivity. Wired and wireless versions are both available. The wired ones are coupled with wearable mobile computers, while the wireless ones use WiFi and BlueTooth technologies to connect to devices throughout the facility.

Because wearables are evolving so rapidly in terms of optimization, structure, and use capability, it is important to stay up to date on every possible implementation idea for this technology. Staying informed can help you communicate better with end-users and provide them with a clear picture of how to bring wearables to their stores, and how they can benefit.

This wearable concept is now migrating to consumer devices in the form of smart watches, smart glasses and digital lanyards. In a recent report from Salesforce Research, it is predicted to be the fastest growing sector, and growth in the enterprise is expected to be 300 percent in the next two years! They are saying that the most common use of wearables by customers is in point-of-sale. The largest growth areas center around leading edge technology that can further personalize the customer experience, such as location sensing technology.

The SalesForce report indicates that many companies “see the opportunity to harness the constant flow of data available through wearable devices. They believe that the influx of information will shape the business world by creating new technologies, services, and even entirely new industries.”  Some of the use cases for these devices include hands-free instruction and guides in field service, remote training, and real time access to customer data.

As wearable smart devices become more accepted by the consumer, the demand for these type of devices in industry will grow. This will help companies with Industrial wearable solutions drive their products into Industry. Many consumers see the benefit of these products in their daily life, and come to expect this in their work life. This will help the market for industrial wearable computers such as those recently launched by top manufacturers.
