What Company are you currently working for and what is your role?
I am currently Sr. Channel Marketing Manager for Honeywell Sensing and Productivity Solutions. I am responsible for leading a team of seasoned Channel Marketing Managers across the US who are focused on developing and enabling our world-class ecosystem of distributors and partners. In addition, our team is focused on implementing strategies and executing marketing plans designed to drive awareness and demand for the Honeywell portfolio of products. Beyond delivering a mix of marketing strategies to execute in the channel, our team is a key contributor to the development and implementation of the new Honeywell Performance Partner Program due to launch in Jan 2016. Honeywell is continually growing, and the channel marketing team is integral to ensuring continuity to both channel partners and distributors, as well as customers, as we evolve and grow.
Professional Career Summary/Highlights
I have worked with the B2B IT and telecommunications channel for over 15 years in various capacities including channel sales, channel development, and both channel and end-user marketing. During this time, I have worked in fast-paced environments with both software and hardware vendors including Rackspace Hosting, Jabra, Websense, Osirium, and Verity. My strength is planning and implementing marketing strategies to achieve bottom-line company performance aligned with the sales organization. I have worked extensively in international high growth markets including LATAM which was a US based role and then transitioned to an APAC role based out of Sydney, both of these early in my career. Most recently I worked in regional EMEA leadership roles based out of London. That brings me full circle back to the USA where I am now working for Honeywell in more established markets. One of my highlights was being assigned to turn around our Australian market where we were not only not growing, but losing share to the competition. In the first year there, we almost tripled our revenue and returned to a growth position, as well as capturing share from the competitors.
Insight into personal life/hobbies
Beyond the 4 walls of the Honeywell office, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I recently moved back to the USA from the UK with my British husband and our 2 children last year. After being outside of the USA for many years it feels great to be back. We love to travel as a family, and are enjoying exploring nearby places that used to be very exotic and out of reach from afar. As with many busy families with young children a lot of time is spent watching our children’s many sporting activities including karate, soccer, basketball, football, and musical recitals. I enjoy to run, golf, trek, and cycle which are all activities we do together as a family. Every now and then I find time to take my Vespa out for warm summers day spin.
Why is involvement with groups or associations around Women in Technology (WIT) important to you?
There is a major disparity between women and men in tech roles today. That said, if you consider the users of technology, one could say that women make up 50% of the users of technology products. Groups like Women in Technology are important to encourage and raise awareness to women beyond being just users of tech, but as integral to defining the future direction of tech products and how they will be used. It is important to have a group like WIT for women to come together and share experiences as developers, marketers, and business leaders in technology. More importantly it is important for groups like WIT to get involved in community to help foster the next generation of Women in Technology, and that is something I want to be a part of.
One piece of advice you’d give to women entering the business world or wanting to advance within the channel?
If I could give one piece of advice it would be to be prepared. There is nothing more important than being prepared, whether for a business meeting, a presentation or an important call. If you take a look at most of the really successful people in this world, they spend much of their time preparing. It takes time and commitment. It sounds really simple, but being prepared can and will help you achieve outcomes and results. I have found that being prepared boosts confidence and helps one be more concise about messages and outcomes they desire to achieve. It gives purpose to what you are trying to accomplish.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I have had much advice over my career but one of the best pieces of advice I have received is: Have passion! Do what you love to do. If you are doing what you love to do, you will find success. Passion is infectious, and if you have passion, that will shine through to customers, partners, and colleagues alike. Passion inspires focus and creativity and ultimately influences positive results.
