From the unseen bump in the night, to spiders, and even jump-scare horror movies, we’re all a little afraid of something. But what about Ghost Kitchens? Oh my! Virtually speaking, the whole transaction (ordering, purchasing, processing, and delivering) can be completed entirely through one’s mobile device. Hypothetically, this wouldn’t require the need for any physical quick service restaurants. That is scary! 

What is a Ghost Kitchen? 

Ghost Kitchens, also known as Cloud Kitchens or Kitchens as a Service, have quickly emerged as the hot trend in the restaurant world, due to the surge of online ordering and delivery services. Some of the benefits of these ghostly kitchens, include lower overhead costs, smaller work spaces, more flexible and customizable menus, and much less of a financial risk for smaller boutique restaurants.

Made to Order

Ghost Kitchens function just like traditional restaurants, for the food is prepared right after the order is made. These kitchens possess the opportunity to customize menu items. Ghost Kitchens come present themselves in many different formats. 

If owning or leasing a space isn’t financially within reach, one can work and operate out of a shared space, or a commissary kitchen. This space comes fully stocked with cookware and other necessary equipment, only costs monthly ‘rent’ payments. 

Gaining Traction 

ISVs can work with boutique restaurants and even QSRs to help them realize that online ordering systems can be a benefit and not a fear factor.  Communicating the advanced efficiency that can arise when associates multitask, essentially, while on the clock. The answer to the previously asked question is no. Quick Service Restaurants shouldn’t be afraid of the evolving technology behind ghost/virtual kitchens. ISVs can help restauranteurs to embrace the positive change that can come from adding a virtual kitchen feature to one’s already physical brick and mortar cafe.
