Will software applications remain as relevant as the digital workplace evolves? This is a question that many ISVs find themselves asking as we push forward in the digital age. As a demand for updated software and hardware solutions is heightened in the workplace, ISVs will need to find ways to allow end-users to conduct business more efficiently and profitably. The trends of the modern digital workplace are meant for creating action-oriented work processes and models that give the employee more responsibility instead of creating more detailed and ineffective processes. Here are some of the ways ISVs can get ahead in crafting digital capabilities for their end-users.
In the Cloud
Digital meeting capabilities are currently delivered through the cloud. Video-meetings are enabled for small, open and collaborative spaces to connect Point A to Point B. At the same time, this will remove end-user friction and video deployment complexity issues. In the past, these capabilities were only available for large video conferences or for companies that could afford such high costs. These digital means will be widely available for those within all meeting parameters and company sizes.
Going further into the Cloud, have you ever brought your work home with you, only to realize that you don’t have that one thing that sitting on your desktop screen? With Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, you can see your work desktop from practically anywhere, promoting remote working entirely through telecommuting.
IT will need to determine the number of endpoints to uphold security maintenance. Tablets and mobile devices can have the same exact security as any laptop. If IT doesn’t go about taking any precautions, you may risk data breach and some security complications. It’s not about VDI, it’s about improvements in mobility. The workplace of the future is more than likely outside of the office space, instead of inside of the cubicle.
AI and NLP
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a huge trend floating around lately, but Natural Language Processing is also something to place on your radar. NLP works to simplify daily tasks and automate customer and end-user interactions. Intelligent assistants (voice command) has come to the rescue. Voice assistants such as Siri and Alexa can do anything from emailing clients to determine the best time to meet on Monday to ordering more ballpoint pens for your office, to even securing a flight out to LA for your next trade show. The possibilities are never-ending.
There are Always Challenges
Some of the oldest and IT endpoint burdens include operating system maintenance, licensing, backup and remote access. Bring your own device (BYOD) is a solution that many administration teams have been discussing with their employees to minimize issues in the modern workplace. Through spreading out the range of one’s employees, they are able to improve productivity, reduce employee turnover, keep older generations in the workforce and potentially decrease costs. By employees working off of their own equipment and tools, companies can exponentially cut back on the purchase of office supplies, furniture, equipment, coffee, and janitorial services. Aligning with the latest trends and minimizing challenges for your employees is the way to win at this.
