Visa and MasterCard have set an October 2015 deadline to roll-out smart card technology in the US. Gas stations have an additional 2 years to migrate their existing automated fuel dispensers. The US is the only major country still utilizing swipe and sign technology. While half of all fraud occurs in the US, only a quarter of credit card transactions occur in the US.
Smart cards were introduced in Europe nearly three decades ago. PrehKeyTec keyboards are integrated with smartcard reader/writers are installed worldwide. The clam shell style reader eliminates the need for the card to rub against the reader each time it’s inserted or removed. This design reduces potential wear of the card chip and the reader contacts, greatly improving the product reliability and life. The smart card integrated option is available for the MCI3100, MCI128, MCI96, MCI84 and MC147 keyboards.
The EMV 3.1.1 and ISO 7816 certified smart card reader module for the MCI and MC family of products allows users to read and write to chip cards of types T=0, T=1, I²C, 2-wire, 3-wire and PTS. Drivers for the popular Windows operating systems are available. A CT-API interface can be placed on the PC/SC interface.
The smart card reader board is a dual interface PC0linked reader that reads and writes to both a 13.56 MHz contactless smart card and virtually any contact smart card. The dual interface feature, implemented on a small PCB, economically supports end-user applications where both contactless and contact smart card technology may be in use. Support cards include Philips MIFARE, DESFire and MIFARE ProX® and HID-iCLASS®.
